I was so excited the other day found in my mail box a reply to my 1st letter. I didn’t expect a reply from this dear friend I thought I would get an email. The reason for this is because I know she is going 24/7 as a full time mom, and working full time outside her home.

Well she dropped me a nice typed letter, and it just tickled me pink.

Thanks friend for making my day brighter.

What are 3 Things You Can Do to be a Better Friend to the People in your Life?

01/27/2011 by Sandra 2 Comments

via Flickr”]This is for you my dear friends, thanks for al...

How can I be a better friend to the awesome people in my life, let me count the ways.  Well for the moment I will just highlight 3, have to give myself a limit or else you will be reading a book.

1.  Give your friend time:  it take time to build a friendship, you have to tend to it like a delicate plant.  If you don’t spend at least a bit of time it will wither away.  I really need to work on this one a bit more,  I tend to get get sucked into the daily life routing and it’s like a dog chasing it’s tail.

2.  I need to improve the listening skills, so that my friends know I am connect to what they are saying.  Many times someone is speaking and I am thinking about what I am going to make for dinner tonight or my right arm will be eaten.  Something about having hungry kids pulling at me just keeps me a bit distracted you know.  Yet if I am talking with a friend I need to give during that time my undivided attention then go back to thinking about my meal or other plans.

3.  Be there for my friends when the going get rough as well as in good times.  Don’t check out when they are in a pickle, and calls for you to watch their 2 kids for the night because mommy is feeling under the weather.   Well that one is a bit out there but be there when a friend call because she is going through a rough patch.  When the grass is green again they will appreciate you being there.  Hey sometimes it’s just an ear they need to try to work thing through and not much else.

All the people in my life would gain from me following these 3 things, now if someone would give this list to my better half it would very much appreciated.

What are some things that you could do to be a better friend to the people in your life?

Foster Parenting Things Change Fast

11/13/2010 by Sandra 3 Comments

Well my last post was at our beginning of our foster parenting experience.   This post today is the first in a series of post about our families last few months.

On August 13, 2010 we got a new placement, a young 7 yr old boy.  I was glad to be called again to foster a child and so was my family.  I prayed our family could really bless him, and he would stay in our home till he was ready to go home.  My 7 yr old son was so happy to have another  boy to spend time with.  We knew that this little boy had some behavior issues, just not the extent of it till after all the papers were signed and we were back home.    I was about to find out something that would not work for our family and we were not  told of this.

To be continued…..

New Foster Parents Ups, and Downs

08/13/2010 by Sandra 1 Comment

The last 2 1/2 weeks have been rather a learning experience for our family.  We had our first foster girl placed and we started our roller coaster ride.  I have not even read any of my google reader blogs, emails etc.  I really did forget about my pc.

Our placement was 11 yrs old soon to be 12, and difinitely new for me.  I just dove right in and enjoyed most of it.  I learned lots about clothes, hair, painting nails and more.  I had to put my parenting skills to use 105% and it wasn’t always easy.  I thought we were doing very good our little family, but we were wrong, oh so wrong.

She was having thoughts all along of hurting herself and she expressed that on Monday of this week and then to her therapist on Tuesday.  Immediate action was taken to protect her from doing anything to herself once it was made known to us.  When she realized where she was going she was totally rebellious for the first time since we had met her.  She walked out the door while I was getting instructions on the phone.  I quickly hung up the phone and called the police to help me find her, which they did after searching for 30 minutes.  They returned to our home and drove her to where she needed to be.

I can’t explain how sad I felt for her, but at the same time glad she was in a safe place.  I miss her every morning, but I am not sure if I will get to talk to her again.  I have prayed for her now more than I have since she arrived at our home.

On Wednesday morning we were called to receive our 2nd placement which is a 7 yr old boy.  We will meet him this coming Monday.  I am praying for this lil guy already and for our family to help him and bless him no matter what amount of time he is here.
