What are 3 Things You Can Do to be a Better Friend to the People in your Life?

How can I be a better friend to the awesome people in my life, let me count the ways.  Well for the moment I will just highlight 3, have to give myself a limit or else you will be reading a book.

1.  Give your friend time:  it take time to build a friendship, you have to tend to it like a delicate plant.  If you don’t spend at least a bit of time it will wither away.  I really need to work on this one a bit more,  I tend to get get sucked into the daily life routing and it’s like a dog chasing it’s tail.

2.  I need to improve the listening skills, so that my friends know I am connect to what they are saying.  Many times someone is speaking and I am thinking about what I am going to make for dinner tonight or my right arm will be eaten.  Something about having hungry kids pulling at me just keeps me a bit distracted you know.  Yet if I am talking with a friend I need to give during that time my undivided attention then go back to thinking about my meal or other plans.

3.  Be there for my friends when the going get rough as well as in good times.  Don’t check out when they are in a pickle, and calls for you to watch their 2 kids for the night because mommy is feeling under the weather.   Well that one is a bit out there but be there when a friend call because she is going through a rough patch.  When the grass is green again they will appreciate you being there.  Hey sometimes it’s just an ear they need to try to work thing through and not much else.

All the people in my life would gain from me following these 3 things, now if someone would give this list to my better half it would very much appreciated.

What are some things that you could do to be a better friend to the people in your life?

Our family went to church service this morning after missing the last 3 weeks for being sick.  It happened that a diffrent member was sick on a weekly basis.

We also have small groups on Sunday evening and we were all excited about going and I found out today at church that it is canceled this week.  We really missed small groups but also feel relieve that our Sunday is more simple today and we can just spend the evening at home.

Tomorrow it a brand new week and I am looking forward to some Christmas decorating with the

family.

On My ToDo List

07/22/2010 by Sandra 2 Comments

Well at least I did 3 of the 5 listed.

  1. Sweep Kitchen
  2. Sweep Foyer
  3. Mop Kitchen
  4. Clean Refrigerator Shelves
  5. Do at least one load laundry

This is just a partial list, no sense in over whelming myself right off the start.  I am a bit late getting going it’s already 1:30 PM here.  On the plus side if I stay home all day I won’t be out and about spending any money on things I probably don’t need, at least that is one way I look at it.  Plus it is so darn hot outside lil L and I don’t want to go outside anyways. (hmm making good use of our fans too, since running the a/c will up our electric bill).

Wish my kitchen looked this good, and since I can put a pic of my own kitchen here’s (its a mess right now) my make believe clean and orderly kitchen.

Long Weekend Preparing For Our Foster Kids

06/29/2010 by Sandra 2 Comments

My husband and I spent the all weekend and Monday putting the final touches to our home.  We got the long awaited call last Thursday that two boys ages 4 and 7 would be place in our home.  See we are new foster parents and our family knows that this will not always be an easy road but we are so excited to be able to have another child bless us.

But it didn’t happen, at least not yet for as we learned the process is full of twists and turns.  I am thankful I had my feet on the ground and didn’t go along with my husbands idea of going out to purchase items for our two precious boys.  We might have spent all that time and money buying and now we still don’t have the kids here.

My suggestion was to wait till they were in our home and then get things for them they may need.  My dear husband was so excited he wanted to go out and get all sorts of items he imagined the children would feel comfortable with.  His heart was in the right place,  but it wasn’t the practical thing to do.  Poor fella he was a bit disappointed to hear that the kids were not ready to be place just yet.

So now as new foster parents in the system, we wait for our one or two blessings to arrive so that we can pour all our love and attention on them.
